Malmö's work towards the UN's 17 global development goals attracts international decision makers
Two weeks after the climate summit in Marrakesh, 500 participants from more than 30 countries, including Cameroon, Australia and Canada, will gather in Malmö to discuss how cities can work towards the UN's new development goals.
The media are also most welcome to participate in the conference "Sustainable City Development 2016 in Malmö – Local implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals".

The UN's new development goals entail local challenges and there is no lack of willingness or initiative in Malmö to achieve them. During the conference, politicians, practitioners and civil servants will make study visits throughout the city to see concrete examples of how we have adopted the UN goals in our efforts to become a sustainable city.

Keynote Speakers
Several international speakers have been invited to talk about sustainability and global development, including Jakob Trollbäck from Trollbäck+Company in New York. Jakob is responsible for the graphic profile and global campaign for the UN's 17 new development goals.
Researchers from the entire worldMore than 40 researchers from 14 countries, including Japan, Canada and India, have submitted contributions to the conference and these will be presented during dialogue seminars and in a separate poster exhibition. The contributions have been reviewed and selected by a scientific committee governed by the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University.

Freedom of expression is a prerequisite for human rights, democracy and sustainable development. Debater and author Alexandra Pascalidou presents Safe Haven artist Abazar Hamid from Sudan, who sings for peace and human rights.
Facts about SCD 2016
Increasingly more people are settling in the world's cities, and this makes the local implementation of the UN's 17 global development goals particularly crucial to future development. "Sustainable City Development 2016 in Malmö – Local implementation of UN SDG" is an international conference that aims to develop and highlight the work being done and to profile Malmö as an international leader in sustainable development.
The City of Malmö is hosting the conference, which is being arranged in cooperation with several national and international organisations. Over the past 20 years, the City of Malmö has organised about a dozen international conferences and major events on sustainable urban development, including a number of Sustainable City Development Conferences.
